The invention relates to bias-switchable photodetectors with dual-mode detection in NIR and visible light ranges. The PD has absorber/spacer components in its active layer, allowing it to generate photocurrent in response to IR or visible light under reverse or forward bias. This offers applications in various fields like environmental monitoring, bio, medical, agriculture, automotive, fishery, food, wellness, and security imaging in distinct bands.
A dual-mode PD that has a unique feature of high IR light response, operated under a reverse bias, and visible light response, operated under a forward bias, taking advantage of photo-multiplication effect.
