HKU developed a system to monitor the current of the power system and identifying the energization status of a power cable (with support for three-phase AC) in a non-invasive way.
An electricity cable needs to be identified as de-energized before any works can be carried out, the only way to identify the energization status is to invasively piercing into the conductor. On the other hand, there are no easy ways to measure the current flowing in an electricity cable with multiple phase conductors, or in a DC circuit.
Founded in 1911, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is the first and oldest institution of higher education in Hong Kong.
