Overview

CUHK has developed an intelligent human-computer interaction rehabilitation and fitness training platforms that provide online therapist-designed training exercises with real-time AR/VR visual and audio guidance, for the elderly, stroke survivors and other people in need. This technology has been licensed by TSSSU-supported start-up Hope4care Limited.

Problem addressed

To allow more ageing people to receive adequate rehabilitation services, it is obvious that there is an overwhelming demand of online rehabilitation training platforms. Our products specially target on the elderly and persons with chronic diseases to provide online rehabilitation service to improve their quality of life.

Innovation
  • The system can capture useful biomechanical data accurately, such as the location of the body’s center of mass (COM), joint angles, and posture.
  • The system provides visual and audio feedback which makes the rehabilitation training process more relaxing, interesting and motivating.
Key impact
  • The greatest strength of our system is that all of our exercises were recommended by professional and experienced therapists and trainers. These exercises were proven to be effective in improving motor functions in people with physical impairments.
  • The system provides special designed training activities, including upper limb, lower limb, balance and coordination exercises.
  • Instant visual and audio feedback assist the users to complete the exercise tasks correctly, without the need of continuous assistance and monitoring by a clinical staff.

  • The system allows users to follow the exercise programme on the TV screen independently with training schedules and routines customized to each individual.
