The present invention develops a new method to synthesize the glycosylated adiponectin collagenous domains, which mimic the pharmacological functions of adiponectin.
Adiponectin is a key regulator of glucose and lipid metabolism. A decrease in the production of adiponectin is involved in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, steatohepatitis, cardiovascular diseases, and certain types of cancers. However, adiponectin-based therapeutics are not possible at present, mainly due to the difficulty in obtaining the full-length glycosylated human adiponectin.
