Problem addressed

Adiponectin is a key regulator of glucose and lipid metabolism. A decrease in the production of adiponectin is involved in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, steatohepatitis, cardiovascular diseases, and certain types of cancers. However, adiponectin-based therapeutics are not possible at present, mainly due to the difficulty in obtaining the full-length glycosylated human adiponectin.

Innovation
  • The first time to obtain adiponectin collagenous domains with biological acvities by chemical synthesis
Key impact
  • The adiponectin downsized mimics showed promising in vivo antitumor, insulin sensitizing, and hepatoprotective activities.
  • It paves the way for adiponectin-based therapeutics. Moreover, it opens a new door in metabolic diseases treatment.
  • It has broad therapeutic applications.
  • The cost is relatively low.
Application
  • type 2 diabetes
  • steatohepatitis
  • cardiovascular diseases
  • adiponectin related cancers
