Antifouling coating can protect electronic circuit/Microelectromechanical systems (MEMs) against moisture. The coating is done by vacuum vapour deposited without the presence of liquid/water. Thus, no damage will be caused to the electronics/MEMs due to direct contact with liquid. For gas sensing MEMs, the coating (water proof but gas permeable) can provide protection against the moisture of gas, increasing shell life substantially
Electronics and MEMs are easily damaged when they come into contact with liquids. Traditional anti-fouling (hydrophobic) coating is coated by resin (liquids), so it cannot be applied to electronics and MEMS.
